Our Impact
“We don’t own the planet Earth, we belong to it. And we must share it with our wildlife.” - Steve Erwin
At Sashwa, we are committed to creating a positive impact through our innovative social enterprise model. Unlike a traditional non-profit, a social enterprise generates profit to achieve specific social objectives. For us, this means supporting Koru Camp, a community engagement tented camp on our shared reserve dedicated to uplifting the previously disadvantaged through educational and empowerment programs.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and our operations are designed to serve the land, the community, and the wildlife. We provide employment and training opportunities for local residents, fostering economic growth and development. We are driven by our core purpose to deeply connect others to nature and wildlife, inspiring them to become positive change-makers in their own lives and the natural world.
Our mission is to drive positive change, creating a more equitable and sustainable world by harmonizing transformative travel with deep environmental and social responsibility.
Koru Camp passionately connects local communities with their natural heritage and fosters environmental stewardship. Their mission is to inspire a new generation of conservationists dedicated to preserving precious ecosystems. Koru Camp offers transformative experiences for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing immersive nature experiences, conservation education, and teaching sustainable living skills. Meaningful access to the Bushveld is created, allowing for the development of deep connections to and love for the wilderness, inspiring communities to preserve and celebrate these wild spaces.
Get involved
Donating to Koru Camp is an investment in our environment’s future and the empowerment of disadvantaged communities. Your stay at Sashwa already supports them, but we encourage anyone who feels inspired to get more involved to make an additional donation. Join us in fostering a deeper appreciation of the natural world and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

At Sashwa, conservation is the cornerstone of our mission. Since acquiring the reserve and transforming it from a hunting concession to a dedicated conservation area, we have focused on restoring its natural biodiversity and honoring nature as a sentient and healing force. Today, the reserve thrives as a sanctuary where wildlife has returned in abundance, finding safety and protection under our stewardship. We believe in the intrinsic value of preserving nature not only for future generations to cherish but also for the inherent healing power it offers. By nurturing this delicate ecosystem, we are committed to restoring the Earth and fostering a harmonious coexistence between all living beings.

Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of our foundations at Sashwa, influencing everything from our culinary practices to our infrastructure. Our plant-based kitchen and organic permaculture garden minimize our ecological footprint while providing nutritious meals sourced locally. We operate fully on solar power, filter our own water, and utilize biodegradable products to reduce waste and pollution. Through these efforts, we strive to set an example of responsible tourism, demonstrating that luxury and sustainability can coexist harmoniously in the wilderness.
