Sashwa River of Stars takes its name from the majestic river we overlook. As the sunlight sparkles and shimmers on the flowing water, it mirrors the Milky Way’s ethereal beauty visible in the night sky—a phenomenon often referred to as the River of Stars. Nestled in a pristine wilderness oasis, our lodge features twelve exquisitely crafted suites, each thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, offering opportunities to observe birdlife in the gardens and a diverse array of wildlife gathering at the water’s edge.

This intentional design was brought to life by a dedicated team whose complementary skills shaped every detail. Adele Sinisterra, our Creative Director, infused her deep knowledge of Southern African travel and her spiritual journey into the look, feel, and rhythm of Sashwa. Her passion is evident in every corner of the lodge. Architect Julie Philips, inspired by her love for Africa’s untamed beauty, preserved much of the original infrastructure while creating immersive spaces that celebrate the natural environment. Interior Designer Lynn Frost completed the vision by sourcing locally made artisan pieces and designing each suite around original artworks by Yola Quinn – a testament to the rich community stories and authentic craftsmanship woven into the heart of Sashwa.

True to its name, the beautiful Olifants River (meaning “Elephant’s River”) frequently hosts large herds of elephants enjoying refreshing dips in its cool, constantly flowing waters. As night descends, let the symphony of hippos grunting and lions roaring serenade you to sleep—an unforgettable African experience that will captivate your heart forever.
