The Heart of Sashwa: Meet The People Behind The Experience

When you arrive at Sashwa, there’s a feeling that everything flows. That your room is always beautifully prepared. That meals arrive with care and attention. That the path you walk, the space you sit in, the rhythm of your day… all feels considered and effortless. But of course, it isn’t effortless at all. Behind each moment is a team of people, each playing their part in shaping the experience. So, in this month’s journal, we want to celebrate them.

The Faces That Shape Your Stay

For our guests, it’s usually the staff they meet who bring Sashwa to life first. The ones who walk alongside them through each day, gently guiding the rhythm of their stay. At the front of it all, Emily and Natasha hold the experience together – welcoming, advising, and ensuring that everything feels seamless from the first greeting to the small, thoughtful check-ins along the way.

Then, out in the bush, our guides Ian and Nhlanhla carry a different responsibility. With deep knowledge and quiet awareness, they shape each safari not just through what is seen, but how it is understood. It’s not only about wildlife sightings, but about connection – to the land, to the stories, and to the subtle rhythms of the wild. Through them, the wilderness begins to make sense, leaving our guests with unforgettable memories and a new appreciation for the wild.

After each game drive or walk, the day continues back at the lodge. Meals are shared, stories are exchanged, and conversations build around the table. Our Nourish restaurant team are there to carry this space with ease. Quietly attentive, their genuine smiles and natural warmth make every guest feel welcomed without formality, allowing mealtimes to become one of the most memorable parts of a stay.

Lastly, in the quieter corners, the spa offers its own kind of care. Danielle and Permission have crafted a place where time softens and the body can begin to let go. Whether looking to rest or restore, their expertise helps each guest to unwind, reset, and leave feeling physically and mentally lighter.

These are the people our guests come to know. The faces, the voices, the ones who shape the experience in ways that are immediately felt. However, there is another layer to Sashwa. One that is less visible, but no less important.

The Unsung Heroes Behind The Scenes

Behind the scenes are equally vital teams, rarely noticed yet working tirelessly to keep things running. Our housekeeping angels move gently through each space, restoring it with attention to detail that’s easy to overlook but impossible to miss when it’s not there. Fresh linens, thoughtful touches, everything exactly where it should be – creating a sense of ease that allows guests to fully settle in.

In the kitchen at Nourish, there is a different kind of energy. A blend of creativity, precision, and genuine passion for food. Each plant-based dish is thoughtfully prepared by our chefs, bringing together flavour, texture, and colour in a way that feels both surprising and inspiring. Alongside them, team chefs Lovemore and Gift work diligently in the staff village kitchen to ensure the people who give so much to Sashwa are supported and sustained in return.

Finally, there are the hands that keep everything moving. The Maintenance and Garden team works steadily in the background. Tending to the Abundance Garden, caring for the landscape, and maintaining the roads and infrastructure that allow life here to unfold as it does. In a place shaped by the bush, their work is constant, adaptive, and utterly essential.

Each of these roles is different. But together, they form something that can’t easily be defined. Sashwa is not just a place – it’s a collective effort. A shared sense of care that runs through everything, carried by the people who bring it to life each day. So, here’s to each and every one of you. Thank you for your dedication, your care, and your belief in the vision we are building together.
